Removal and installation of a rear bumper

Rear bumper


1 — a bumper beam 2 — the shock-absorber 3 — sealing laying 4 — a cover 5 — bumper facing 6 — a support of a lateral wall left	7 — a level left 8 — an opening cover for towage 9 — a level central 10 — a peak bottom 11 — a peak bottom, for models with the prevention of dangerous rapprochement at a parking (PDC)

The front bumper is executed in such a manner that it maintains without damages a head-on collision at speed of 4 km/h. Thus energy of blow is perceived through the aluminum beam which was inside and two hydraulic shock-absorbers.

REMOVAL

1 Remove at the left and on the right back peaks of arches of wheels-1-. For this purpose turn out two bolts-2-. Take out a screw-driver pins-3-, then remove clips. After that take out peaks sideways at a bumper.

2 Open a luggage carrier and remove the left lateral facing, address to the Section Removal and installation of facing of the back panel.
3 Models 316i, 318i: Remove the right lateral facing and take out the right pocket, address to the Section Removal and installation of facing of the back panel.
4 Models 320d, 320i, 323i, 328i: Uncover the storage battery, address to the Section Removal and installation of the storage battery.

5 Unscrew three nuts of fastening of a bumper at the left and on the right a key on 13 mm. Previously uncover the top nut.

6 At cars with system of the prevention of dangerous rapprochement at a parking uncover-1-. Thus at first from below disconnect lock pads, and then pull back the rest of a peak and disconnect it in points-3-. Rasstykuyte shtekerny connections of ultrasonic converters also remove a peak. Disconnect at the left below the holder of a cable.

7 Take out a bumper by means of the assistant.

INSTALLATION

8 If it is necessary, complete a bumper.

9 If it is necessary, put on the shock-absorber-2-a plastic cover-1-and consolidation-3-. The cover at removal often remains in a shock-absorber support.

10 Insert a bumper by means of the assistant in lateral directing and displace forward, press sideways a forward part and displace forward against the stop.
11 At cars with system of the prevention of dangerous rapprochement at a parking fix at the left from below the holder of a cable. Join shtekerny connections of ultrasonic converters and fix a peak.
12 raise a bumper behind A little, expose it parallel to a body and fix the moment of 20 N • m. The distance between a bumper and a body should make 5 ± 1 mm.
13 Height of a bumper is regulated at the removed shock-absorber by rotation of a plastic insert with an internal shestigrannik in shock-absorbers.
14 Establish to the place of a cover of the top nuts of fastening.
15 Insert back peaks of arches of wheels at the left and on the right and fix them. Insert two rivets and press against the stop pins.
16 Models 320d, 320i, 323i, 328i: Establish into place a cover of the storage battery, address to the Section Removal and installation of facing of the back panel.
17 Models 316i, 318i: Establish the right lateral facing and the right pocket, address to the Section Removal and installation of facing of the back panel.
18 Establish the left lateral facing, address to the Section Removal and installation of facing of the back panel.
