1 BMW depending on model and equipment can have tires and disks of the various sizes. All disks have depth of a press fitting of 45 mm. Depth of a press fitting is a distance from the rim middle to a persistent surface of a wheel on a brake disk or a drum.
Wheel bolts for steel and light-alloy wheels have the identical sizes.

At installation of light-alloy wheels of other producers bolts of other sizes can be demanded.

The equipment constantly develops. Can be so that for older models other values of pressure in tires are admissible. The sizes specified in documents to the car are defining.

2 At a sports manner of driving it is recommended to increase pressure in lobbies and back tires by 0.2 bar. At increase in pressure it is necessary to start with a base-line value for various conditions of loading.
3 Winter tires as a rule have pressure upon 0.2 bar higher than summer. It is necessary to consider recommendations of manufacturers of winter tires.
4 As winter tires have restriction till speed, in sight of the driver the plate with the indication of the maximum speed should be strengthened.

Designation of disks

Example of 6 J x 15:
6 width of a rim in inches.

BMW can be equipped with tires and disks of the various sizes. However use of disks with depth of a press fitting only 45 mm is allowed. Depth of a press fitting is a distance from the rim middle to a persistent surface of a wheel on a brake disk or a drum.

Admissible lateral palpation on onboard закраине rims: 1.2 mm.

Admissible vertical palpation on the landing shelf of a rim: 0.8 mm.

Designation of tires

Example: 195/70 R14 89H
195 width of the tire in mm.
/70 the relation of height to width (the height of cross-section section of the tire makes 70 % from width).
If hotel data on the relation of width to height are absent (for example, 175 R 14), mean are a question of the "normal" relation. It makes 82 %.
R radial design.
14 size of a rim in inches.
89 parameter of loading capacity.
N class of speed, N: to 210 km/h (on new tires it is brought not always).

if between data 14 and 89 there is M+S designation, it is a question of tires with a winter protector.

The letter of speed stands up for in the size of the tire. Symbols of speed belong both to summer, and to winter tires, address to Specifications.

Date of manufacturing of the tire

Date of manufacturing of the tire is specified on the tire in a code of the producer

5 Regular check of a condition of tires will allow you to avoid the troubles connected with stops in a way because of the lowered wheel. Besides, such checks give valuable information on possible problems with a steering and a suspension bracket before emergence in them serious damages.

6 Tyres are equipped with the built-in strips of indication of wear of a protector which are bared at decrease in depth of a protector to 1.6 mm then tires are considered as the worn-out. This size represents minimum admissible depth of a protector; it is in most cases recommended to replace the tires, which depth of a protector of 2 mm and less. It is also possible to determine depth of a protector by the simple and inexpensive adaptation known under the name of a measuring instrument of depth of a protector.

7 Pay attention to any unusual wear of protectors. Such defects of a protector as cavities, cambers, uploshcheniye and stronger wear on the one hand indicate violation of corners of installation of forward wheels and/or wheel balancing. At identification any of the listed defects it is necessary to address for their adjustment in a shinomontazhny workshop.
8 Carefully check the tire on existence of cuts, punctures and got stuck nails or buttons. Sometimes after a tire protykaniye a nail it still some time holds pressure or lowers very slowly.

At suspicion on existence such “a slow puncture” at first check tightness of a nipple of the gate of a rating. Then examine a protector on presence at it got stuck strangers of subjects or closed up before the punctures which have started over again to pass air. If there is a suspicion that there is a puncture, to make sure of its existence it is possible, having moistened a suspected site with soap water. In the presence of leak solution will start to bubble. If not too big, the tire it is usually possible to repair a puncture in any shinomontazhny workshop.
9 Carefully examine internal lateral surfaces of tires on existence of signs of leakage of brake liquid on them. If those are available, immediately check brake system.
10 Maintenance in tires of the correct pressure increases term of their service, helps to save fuel and improves comfort of movement. The special manometer is necessary for check of pressure.

Always keep an exact manometer in the ware box. Indications of the manometers which have been built in nozzles of air hoses at stations of service, often happen inexact.

11 Always check pressure on cold tires (i.e. to a trip on the car). If to check pressure on the warm or warmed-up tires, it will lead to overestimate of indications of a manometer because of thermal expansion of tires. In this case never it is necessary to lower pressure since after tire cooling it will appear lower than norm.
12 Screw together a protective cap from the gate of a rating acting from a disk of a wheel or from a cap of a nave, then densely press to the gate a manometer nozzle. Consider instrument readings and compare them with recommended in Specifications. Do not forget to establish into place a protective cap for hit prevention in the mechanism of a nipple of dirt and moisture. Check pressure in all four tires and if necessary pump up them to the recommended value of pressure.

Check of pressure of air in tires

14 Check of pressure of air should be carried out only on cold tires.

Check of the gate of tires

Applied extension pieces of gates should be checked on existence of damages and the pollution conducting to a leakage. If necessary it is necessary to replace extension pieces.

21 Unscrew a protective cap and the extension piece.
22 Put on the gate a small amount of soap solution or a saliva. If the air vial is formed, tighten an insert the 3rd protective cap 2.

It is necessary to apply only a protective cap to pulling up of the gate 2. 1 rubber protective caps, 4th gate.

23 Again check the gate. If there are vials and the gate it is not possible to tighten, it it is necessary to replace (work HUNDRED).
24 Surely again establish into place a protective cap.

Lateral wear


Insufficient pressure in the tire leads to its overheat at movement owing to an excessive deflection therefore the protector does not nestle sufficiently on a road surface. It leads to loss of coupling with the road and to excessive wear of a protector, not to mention danger of an exit of the tire out of operation as a result of an overheat.

Superfluous pressure

Non-uniform wear
