E46 series BMW 3

1 Merge cooling liquid, including from the block of cylinders, address to the Section Replacement of cooling liquid.
2 Remove the thermostat, address to the Section Removal and thermostat installation.
3 Remove the inlet pipeline, address to the Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline.
4 Remove spark plugs, address to the Spark plug Section.
5 Remove ignition coils, address to the Section Removal and installation of coils of ignitions/cables of ignition.
6 Unscrew bolts of fastening and remove a reception pipe of system of release, address to the Section Removal and installation of system of release.
7 Unscrew bolts of fastening and uncover heads of cylinders. Thus at first weaken evenly cross-wise bolts, then turn out them.

8 Unscrew bolts of fastening and remove the holder of the device of supply of air and the electromagnetic valve with the pressure accumulator (shooters on an illustration).

9 Unscrew bolts of fastening and remove the sensor of provision of a camshaft and take out it together with a sealing ring.

10 Unscrew bolts of fastening and remove the top cover of a box of a drive of GRM. Remove rubber laying under the bottom cover.

11 Cut through from within outside and remove sealing laying of a head of cylinders at the top edge of the bottom cover (an arrow on an illustration). It is necessary to replace laying. As the spare part it is possible to use laying for the top cover of a box of a drive of GRM.

12 Turn a cranked shaft for the central bolt of fastening to the right side so that the piston of the first cylinder was in VMT. Thus the arrow on an asterisk shows up. To turn a cranked shaft it is possible for one of the next ways: — Tighten the parking brake and establish a check point in neutral situation. Turn a cranked shaft for the central bolt of fastening of a pulley by means of a face key in the direction of an hour hand. — Lift and put on supports a lateral back part of the car. Include the fifth transfer and release the parking brake. Turn the lifted back wheel. Thus, the cranked shaft is turned. This operation needs the assistant. — Put the car on an equal platform. Include the fifth transfer. Shift the car forward or back.

13 Fix camshafts the BMW-11 3 190 tool shown on an illustration in this situation. It is possible to use also the firm KLANN, KL-0580-5 tool.

14 Fix a cranked shaft in situation VMT by the BMW-11 2 300 tool or the corresponding core. For this purpose insert a core through an opening in the block of cylinders into an opening in a flywheel (an arrow on an illustration), previously having taken out a stopper.

15 Unscrew bolts of fastening of an asterisk of a camshaft. Slowly shift back a boot of a natyazhitel for a shestigrannik by means of a wrench and thus unload a chain. Remove an asterisk.

16 Unscrew bolts of fastening and remove from a head of cylinders an uspokoitel and a tension boot (shooters on an illustration).

Before an otvorachivaniye of bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders turn a cranked shaft back on a corner 45 °. Thus, the contact of valves of pistons is excluded. After installation of a head of cylinders again turn a cranked shaft in position VMT of the first cylinder.

17 Weaken for some receptions bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders outside inside. The otvorachivaniye of bolts needs a special key of Torx, for example, HAZET-2925.
18 by means of the assistant remove a head from the block of cylinders.

If it is necessary, carefully hook a head of cylinders a screw-driver, watching to damaging a sealing surface.

19 Clear a shaber a sealing surface of the block of cylinders of the remains of sealing laying. Watch that dirt did not get to openings of the block of cylinders. Close an opening rags.
20 Clear a sealing surface of a head of cylinders.

21 Check planeness of a head and the block of cylinders a steel ruler in the longitudinal and cross-section direction. If necessary process (work HUNDRED). The maximum deviation from planeness of 0.03 mm. The demanded height of a head of cylinders is specified in Specifications.

22 Carefully clear carving openings under bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders of oil and other pollution.

In carving openings should not be oils, otherwise bolts do not transfer a total pressure to a head of cylinders though they and are tightened by the established moment. Besides, the block of cylinders thus can burst.

23 Check, whether there are two directing plugs (shooters on an illustration). If is not present, insert them and check reliability of landing.

24 Put on the fat-free surface of the block of cylinders new sealing laying without hermetic so that openings remained open.

25 Establish a head of cylinders by means of the assistant. Thus wring out back a wrench for a shestigrannik a boot of a natyazhitel (the shooter on an illustration).

26 Grease with impellent oil new bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders. Then screw bolts and evenly tighten on a spiral from within outside to a prileganiye.

Surely establish new bolts. Bolts for some receptions are tightened. The tarirovanny dinamometrichesky key should be applied to an inhaling.

27 Tighten bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders in sequence with 1 on 10 in three steps. The moments of an inhaling are given in Specifications.

The inhaling of bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders should be carried out with special care. Before an inhaling it is necessary to check accuracy of a dinamometrichesky key. Besides, the inhaling of bolts needs an angular washer, for example, HAZET 6690. If such washer available is not present, put a key, put to the key lever a goniometer and note chalk a corner 90 °. Then turn a key at one time to the put mark.

28 Fix on a head of cylinders an uspokoitel and a boot of a tension of a chain of a drive of GRM.
29 Turn a cranked shaft in position VMT of the first cylinder and insert a core.
30 Wring out for a shestigrannik back a boot of a natyazhitel and put on an asterisk with a chain. The arrow on an asterisk should indicate up. Expose oval openings on the center.
31 Camshaft should be fixed in VMT. In this situation fix an asterisk four bolts the moment of 10 N • m.

33 Clear sealing surfaces under the top cover of a box of a drive of GRM.
34 Check existence of damages of sealing laying between the top and bottom covers of a box of GRM, if necessary replace. Put laying. Thus the eminence on laying should enter into a groove on a head of cylinders.
35 Replace paper laying of a cover of a box of GRM.

36 Grease with a thin layer of konsistentny greasing the top party of rubber laying and the BMW-11 2 330 tool. The tool is put on sealing laying before installation of a cover of a box of GRM. Besides, for the direction two fingers of BMW-11 4 110 are rolled in the top carving openings. Instead of the specified tools the thin steel sheet and two carving fingers can be applied.

37 Establish a cover of a box of GRM, insert and screw fastening bolts so that the bolt head adjoined. Take out the BMW-11 2 330 tool.

38 Establish without laying a cover of a head of cylinders. Screw M6 screws with big washers (shooters on an illustration). Thus the cover of a box of GRM should nestle down so that the top edges of a cover of a box and a head of cylinders lay at one level. In this situation tighten bolts of fastening of a cover of a box of GRM the moment of 15 N • m. Remove directing fingers and screw on their place the remained bolts, tighten them also the moment of 15 N • m.

39 Again uncover heads of cylinders.

40 Grease with elastic hermetic, for example, “Drei Bond 1209” or “Loctit Ultra Black” interfaced surfaces of a cover of a box of GRM and a head of cylinders (an arrow on an illustration).

With 41 Same hermetic grease transitions to a semicircle of sealing laying (the shooter on an illustration).

42 Fix cross-wise a cover of a head of cylinders with laying by the moment of 10 N • m. Watch that laying did not act.

The cover of a head of cylinders демпфируется also is condensed with rubber laying of bolts of fastening. Therefore do not turn rubber laying.

43 Insert and fix the sensor of provision of camshafts with a sealing ring.
To 44 Zakrepimta bolts a reception pipe of system of release, address to the Section Removal and installation of system of release.
45 Establish the inlet pipeline, address to the Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline.
46 Establish ignition coils, address to the Section Removal and installation of coils of ignitions/cables of ignition.
47 Establish spark plugs, address to the Spark plug Section.

48 Fix the holder of supply of air and the electromagnetic valve with the pressure accumulator.

49 Establish the thermostat, address to the Section Removal and thermostat installation.
50 Fill system with cooling liquid and remove from it air, address to the Section Replacement of cooling liquid.
51 Check oil level in the engine. If necessary add oil to a mark the MOVE.

If the head of cylinders acted in film owing to defective laying, replace oil as in impellent oil there can be a cooling liquid. Replace oil, address to the Section Replacement of impellent oil and the oil filter.

As removal of a head of cylinders represents quite labor-consuming operation and demands the special BMW tool, it is recommended to carry out this work on HUNDRED.

52 Remove the inlet pipeline, address to the Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline.
53 Remove camshafts, address to the Section Removal and installation of camshafts.
54 Remove both inlet pipelines from a head of cylinders.

For this purpose the engine should be suspended on the crane and one support of the engine is released, address to the Section Removal and installation of the pallet of a case.

55 Again tighten nuts М10 of fastening of a support of the engine the moment of 47 N • m also clean the crane. If nuts М8 are established, them it is necessary to tighten the moment of 22 N • m.
56 Merge cooling liquid and disconnect the thermostat case, address to the Section Removal and thermostat installation.
57 Unscrew two bolts of fastening and remove from a head of cylinders a branch pipe of cooling liquid under the inlet pipeline.

58 Turn out screws of a cover of a box of GRM (an arrow on an illustration). Instruction: Camshafts on it and the following illustrations are shown established, but actually should be removed.

59 Unscrew bolts of fastening and take out an uspokoitel of a driving chain of GRM (an arrow on an illustration).

60 Weaken for some receptions bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders outside inside. Performance of this operation needs a key for Torx screws, for example, HAZET 2925.

After removal of a head of cylinders do not put it on a sealing surface. Completely open valves can be thus damaged. Put a head on two wooden whetstones.

61 Remove the remains of sealing laying with solvent for hermetic and a shaber from firm breeds of a tree. Watch that the remains of hermetic did not get to openings. Close openings rags.
62 Carefully clear carving openings for bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders of oil and other pollution by the compressed air or a rag wound round a narrow screw-driver.

Do not allow oil hit in carving openings as it distorts the moment of an inhaling of bolts. Besides, it can lead to formation of cracks in the block of cylinders.

63 Check directing plugs (arrows on an illustration) on existence of damages and reliability of landing. They serve for a centering of a head of cylinders.

64 Check planeness of a head and the block of cylinders a steel ruler in the longitudinal and cross-section direction. If necessary process (work HUNDRED). The maximum deviation from planeness of 0.03 mm. The demanded height of a head of cylinders is specified in Specifications.

65 Grease transitions to a cover of a box of a drive of GRM with elastic hermetic, for example, “Drei Bond 1209” or “Loctitе Ultra Black”.
66 Replace sealing laying of a head of cylinders. Put new laying without hermetic so that not to block any opening.
67 Establish into place by means of the assistant a head of cylinders. Do not recolour it, new sealing laying otherwise can be damaged.
68 Grease with impellent oil new bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders. Then tighten fastening bolts on a spiral evenly from within outside to a prileganiye.

72 Fix on a head of cylinders two bolts a branch pipe of cooling liquid, having established new sealing rings
73 Establish on a head of cylinders both final a collector, address to the Section Removal and installation of a final collector.
74 Establish camshafts, address to the Section Removal and installation of camshafts.
75 Establish the inlet pipeline, address to the Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline.
76 Establish the thermostat case, address to the Section Removal and thermostat installation.
77 Fill system with cooling liquid, remove air, address to the Section Replacement of cooling liquid.
78 Check in the engine oil level, if necessary add oil to a mark the MOVE.

If the head of cylinders acted in film owing to defective sealing laying, replace oil as in impellent oil there can be a cooling liquid. Replacement of oil address to the Section Replacement of impellent oil and the oil filter.

Signs of defective sealing laying of a head of cylinders are given in the Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline.

As removal of a head of cylinders represents quite labor-consuming operation and demands the special BMW tool, it is recommended to execute it in conditions HUNDRED.

79 Remove the inlet pipeline, address to the Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline.
80 Remove filtering element of the air filter, address to the Section Replacement of a filtering element of the air filter.
81 Remove fuel pipelines and nozzles, address to the Section Removal and installation of nozzles.

82 Unscrew bolts-1-and remove soaking-up branch pipe.

83 Rasstykuytes I will corrode a measuring instrument of weight of air, having pressed a wire clamp at the tip.
84 Unscrew bolts of fastening of a cover of a head of cylinders cross-wise in return sequence, that is with 22 on 1.
85 Merge cooling liquid, including the block of cylinders, address to the Section Replacement of cooling liquid.
86 Disconnect hoses of cooling liquid at the thermostat case for what a screw-driver raise wire clamps, address to the Section Connection and separation of the quick disconnect coupling.

87 Unscrew bolts of fastening and remove a turbokompressor from a reception pipe (an arrow on an illustration).

88 Remove a radiator of system of a retsirkulyatsiya of the fulfilled gases-1-together with the thermostat - 2-. For this purpose release collars of both hoses of cooling liquid under a radiator of system of a retsirkulyatsiya and remove hoses. Unscrew bolts of-3-fastenings of the holder from both parties of a radiator.

89 Unscrew bolts of fastening and remove a branch pipe of cooling liquid under the thermostat case at a head of cylinders. Disconnect a branch pipe at the holder of a head of cylinders.
90 Remove both camshafts, address to the Section Removal and installation of camshafts.

91 Twist fingers of an uspokoitel and a tension boot in the places noted by shooters.

The left finger on an accompanying illustration is closed by the vacuum pump.

92 Take out a boot of a natyazhitel up.

93 Unscrew bolts of fastening of a box of driving chains (an arrow on an illustration). Turn out also invisible bolts on an illustration in points-1-and-2-.

94 Weaken bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders in return sequence with 10 on 1, having unscrewed them on 1/2 turns. Then in the same sequence turn out. And – the admission party; In – the release party.

95 Remove a head of cylinders by means of the assistant.

After removal do not put a head of cylinders on condensing surface, glow plugs can be thus damaged. Put a head of cylinders on two wooden whetstones.

96 Lay new laying without hermetic so that not to block any opening. Laying depending on thickness has marking by various number of openings (the shooter on an illustration) New laying should have the same number of openings, as being earlier.

Joints of a box of driving chains with a head of cylinders are not condensed with hermetic. On laying in these parts there are additional sealing strips (shooters on an illustration).

97 Bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders are tightened for 5 receptions. For each reception the inhaling is conducted in sequence with 1 on 10 bolt. And – the admission party, In – the release party. Efforts of a tightening are given in Specifications.

98 Tighten bolts of fastening of a box of driving chains the moment of 15 N • m.
99 Screw 2 new pins of a boot of a tension and an uspokoitel of a chain. Pins are replaced, as their surface has a covering for self-latching.
100 Fix an asterisk with the chain put on it on distributive to a shaft. Bolts yet do not tighten.

The adjacent surface should be pure and fat-free.

101 Take out from a natyazhitel of a chain a core so that the chain stretched. Screw in an opening in a head of cylinders a cap for a core.
102 Establish camshafts, address to the Section Removal and installation of camshafts.
103 Fix a branch pipe of cooling liquid with new laying under the thermostat case at a head of cylinders.
104 Fix bolts a radiator of system of a retsirkulyatsiya with new laying. Put on hoses of cooling liquid and fix them collars.
105 Put on hoses of cooling liquid the case of the thermostat and fix them, address to the Section Removal and thermostat installation.
106 Fix a turbokompressor with new consolidation by new being self-stopped nuts on a final collector. Previously cover bolts with high-temperature paste. Tighten nuts the moment of 45 N • m.
107 Establish surely new sealing laying of a cover of a head of cylinders
108 Corners of a sealing surface of a cover of a head of cylinders between a head of cylinders and the vacuum pump condense with rollers from Drei Bond 1209 or Loctite Ultra Black hermetic in height and width of 2 mm.

109 Wrap bolts of fastening of a cover of a head of cylinders cross-wise by hand in sequence from 22 on 1. Then tighten them in the same sequence the moment of 15 N • m.

110 Join the socket of a measuring instrument of weight of air, the tip should be fixed.

111 Fix an inlet branch pipe two bolts.

112 Establish nozzles and fuel pipelines, address to the Section Removal and installation of nozzles.
113 Establish the inlet pipeline, address to the Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline.
114 Establish filtering element of the air filter, address to the Section Removal and installation of the air filter of the engine.
