Adjustment of the parking brake

The parking brake is completely independent of working brakes of the car. Therefore wear of blocks of the parking brake is insignificant. As a result of corrosion of a brake drum or pollution of brake shoes the brake moment decreases. If old blocks are regulated, the parking brake should be earned extra previously. For this purpose carefully tighten the parking brake at speed of 40 km/h so that brake action was slightly felt.
Keeping speed of movement, tighten a brake on one tooth and pass 400 more m. Release a brake and let's to it be cooled. The rust which can be formed on a frictional surface, and wear products thus is removed.

Adjustment of the parking brake is necessary at:

- To replacement of brake shoes
- To replacement of brake drums / back brake disks
- To installation back adjusting device.
- Too big way, passable lever of a brake (over 10 teeth).
- To replacement of a cable of a drive of a brake

Cables of a drive of the parking brake and all mobile elements of a brake should have an easy course.


 ADJUSTMENT

1 Weaken on one bolt of fastening on each back wheel.
2 Lift and establish on supports a back part of the car.

3 Remove above a cover of the lever of the parking brake-1-and take out it forward via the handle.

HUNDRED apply the special BMW-341030 tool to adjustment of the parking brake. It represents two face keys which were in each other which are established for two sizes: lock-nut and adjusting nut. If the specified tool existence is not present, it is necessary to remove the central console, address to the Section Removal and installation of the central console.


4 Weaken two lock-nuts and two adjusting screws (shooters on an illustration) cables of a drive of the parking brake. Cables completely weaken.

5 Completely turn out on one bolt of fastening on each back wheel. Turn a wheel so that the opening was vertically below. Will light a small lamp in an opening, in it the adjusting nut should be visible.

It is not necessary to remove a wheel, as it is shown on an illustration.

6 Rotation of an adjusting nut by-1-screw-driver-2-make so that blocks of the parking brake adjoined to a drum and the wheel could not rotate any more. After that turn back an adjusting nut on 10 teeth. If the adjusting nut on the left side of the car rotates in the arrow direction, brake shoes adjoin to a drum. On the right side the screw-driver rotates in an opposite direction.

7 After adjustment check, whether wheels freely rotate, if necessary unscrew still adjusting nuts. Wheels should rotate surely freely.
8 Adjust cables of a drive of a brake. For this purpose tighten the brake lever on four teeth and screw adjusting nuts on cables so that back wheels could rotate evenly still by hand. Release the lever of a brake and check, whether wheels freely rotate. If necessary repeat adjustment.
9 Completely release the brake lever.
10 Include ignition, the control bulb of the parking brake should not light up.
11 Tighten the brake lever on one tooth. Braking on back wheels should not be. Otherwise repeat brake adjustment. The control bulb of the parking brake can light up.
12 Tighten the brake lever on two teeth. The control bulb should light up now. Otherwise as appropriate turn in inclusion contact on the brake lever.
13 Switch off ignition.
14 Tighten lock-nuts, holding thus adjusting nuts.
15 Establish the central console if she acted in film, address to the Section Removal and installation of the central console.
16 Lower the car on wheels.
17 Screw two bolts of fastening on back wheels and tighten them the moment of 100 N • m.
